The purpose of a float trap is to remove air present in the piping while the installation is being filled with water. The force of the weight of the float trap acts as a lever which brings down the valve and allows air to escape.

Limits switches let you get electronic information on the position of a valve. They can be mechanical (physical contact), or inductive (electromagnetic contact) just by the detection of metallic items.
